William and Joy Spurlock passed away on April 23, 2023, of natural causes, in their Temecula, California home. The widely admired and loved couple were married for 55 years.
William M. Spurlock, 83, was born in Chicago and spent most of his life in Phoenix, Honolulu and, for the past many years, in Temecula. A versatile physicist and scientist, Bill graduated with a master’s degree from Arizona State University. An integral part of Exotic Materials until retirement, Bill was proud of the role he played in supporting the American space program during its glory years. As his daughter Jennifer remembers, Bill was able to blend the divine with the science of the stars.
Joy Hermine Spurlock, 78, was a registered nurse who provided health care with love for decades. She devoted much of her career to serving seniors and those who needed hospice care. A proud “service brat,” Joy grew up in Germany, Japan, and numerous U.S. military bases. All who knew Joy knew that she loved animals and the numerous pets that became part of the household.
Bill and Joy’s greatest accomplishment was their family. They are survived by daughter Jennifer Spurlock of Escondido, an accomplished artist; and brothers James Spurlock (Patricia) and Neal Spurlock (Regina). They are predeceased by daughter Kristy; and parents James T. and Kathleen Ryant Spurlock and Roger and Elizabeth Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, at Cathedral Memory Gardens 13280 Chapman Ave. Garden Grove, Ca 92840 at 11:00 AM
