WAYNE J. FILUT

Wayne J. Filut, age 91, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on October 26, 2024, in Riverside, CA. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, February 9, 1933 to Valentine and Golda Filut. Wayne lived a full life dedicated to public servanthood, while he served in both the United States Air Force as a Fire Fighter, and then continued to shape the minds of the next generation as a Social Studies middle school teacher. He was devoted to this family, faith, country, and profession and lived out his belief through all aspects of his life. 

After over 20 years of honorable military service. Wayne went on to achieved his education goal of receiving his Masters at Pepperdine University. 

While stationed in South Dakota Wayne met Mary Dolores and shared 40 years of marriage together. They navigated the many joys and challenges of building a life and raising 3 daughters together. Wayne stood by Mary's side in 1996 as she was diagnosed with ALS and lost her hard fought fight against the disease. Wayne was fortunate to meet his sweetheart Marjorie and continue to be a devoted and loving husband until she took her last breath after 13 beautiful years together. 

Wayne had a deep love of traveling and loading up his girls to experience new memories and adventures, and continued to live this out during his retirement with his 5th wheel and grandchildren. 

Wayne was a devoted brother, and father and is survived by 3 of his, sisters Marlene, Pat, and Valerie. His children Theresa, Carole, and Marie and son-in-laws, Chris, Mike, and Pete. He was a beloved grandfather to Joshua, Courtney, Brittney, Joseph, and Erika. Wayne's family was the pride and joy of his life, providing him with much love, laughter, and headaches over the years.   

A memorial service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on November 13, 2024, at 1:15 pm. Where he will be laid to rest with full military honors, commemorating his service to his beloved nation. His life will be remembered as one of love and devotion to all those who surrounded him and his legacy will be celebrated by all who knew him.
