RONALD SHELLEY Obituary

Ronald Lynn Shelley passed away at the age of 76 at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial
Veterans’ Hospital on October 19, 2022. Ron was born in Ottumwa, Iowa to Garnet (Troth)
Shelley and Lynn Shelly on July 14, 1946, he was a long-time resident of Riverside and lived in
Woodcrest for the last 20 years. Ron graduated from Ramona High in 1964 and was drafted into
the U.S. Army in March of 1966. Ron was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam as a Construction
Machine Operator and was honorably discharged in March of 1968. After Ron’s service to our
country, at the age of 25, he purchased his first Chevron station on Adams/Indiana St. in Riverside, he
came to know many of his very best and life-long friends through his Chevron affiliation. Ron
owned a few different locations, his last being on Carnelian and Baseline in Rancho
Cucamonga. He sold his station and opened Ron Shelley’s Automotive on Foothill Blvd. in
Rancho Cucamonga; Ron was always proud to be at the top of the AAA rating for service.
Ron loved dogs and enjoyed owning horses including a mare that placed in the 1995
NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity. He also enjoyed trail riding with friends. Ron was a current member
of the Riverside Rancheros where he enjoyed tending bar and making friends. Ron also loved
hunting, fishing, camping and spending time at the River with his family and friends. During his
Harley Davidson years, Ron and his friend Bobby hit the road to Sturgis on more than one
occasion.
Ron is survived by his daughter Rhonda Giannini, his granddaughter Renae Giannini, grandson
Jaron Giannini, his wife Alaina and step-son, Andrew. He is preceded in death by his parents,
his step-father Les Thresher and his sisters Marsha and Linda.
Ron will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Funeral services will be at the Riverside National Cemetery on December 15th at 10:30 with a
celebration of life for his family and friends following at the Riverside Rancheros at 1198
Washington St.
