Robert Elmo Miller, 96, passed away on June 26, 2022 in Riverside, California. He was born on December 7, 1925 to Robert and Velma (Snelson) Miller.
Bob grew up in Nevada (Nuh-vay-da) Missouri, the only child of Robert M and
Velma Miller. He had a special relationship with his grandfather “Dad Miller”
whom he loved very much. His grandfather led a what one might call a colorful
life. Bob was drawn into that life for a time, but God had something different in
mind for him.
Bob later worked at Swift and Company, and then got a job in the newspaper
business. He ended up moving to Arkansas (arr-kansas) City, Kansas to work at
The Arkansas (arr-Kansas) City Traveler newspaper. It was there he met Christine.
They married on February 11 th 1950. Soon after, he accepted the Lord as His
savior and was baptized and joined the Arkansas (arr-Kansas) City Missionary
Baptist Church there in Kansas.
Their first son Herb was born in June of 1952. Steve was born in February 1957.
In 1953 Bob and Christine moved to California and joined the West Riverside
Missionary Baptist Church. On June 23, 1957 they joined in the organization as
charter members of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Riverside. For 65
years and three days he remained a member there.
Bob was ordained as a deacon to the church and worked faithfully in that
position.
Bob worked at the Press Enterprise in Riverside for many years. He began as a
type setter and by the end of his career there he was an advertising salesman.
It was at The Press Enterprise where he first met Bob Jack. Brother Bob and his
wife Donna Jack were won to the Lord through the witness and friendship of Bob
and Christine. Bob Miller and Bob Jack became best friends for life.
After a few years of selling advertising for the Press Enterprise Bob got the
opportunity to leave the Press Enterprise and to start his own business. He had
always wanted to be self-employed and soon he opened a furniture and appliance
store… “Miller’s Furniture”. The store was attached to the front of their home
and I’m sure you would not begin to believe how many times their meals were
interrupted by that annoying buzzer that alerted them that a customer had
entered the store. We often wondered if we ate 5 meals a day if business would
be even better.
In summary…there are four things that defined Bob Miller.
His Faith, his love for music and the guitar, his humor, and his ability to do just
about anything himself.
One can see these traits in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren
today.
Regarding his faith, he was a faithful member of the same church for over 65
years. Not only was he a member, he and Christine attended every service that
was physically possible. You could count on them being in church every Sunday
for Sunday School, preaching and back again in the evening for bible classes and
the evening sermon. They even arranged their business hours to be able to
attend every Wednesday service. As time went on things changed but he and
mom remained faithful until the day they died.
We’re thankful for the example of faithfulness and love for God and family. Truly,
in our opinion, they were the best parents and kid could have!
Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11am at Faith Baptist Church, San Dimas, California
