RICHARD HOLLIDAY Obituary

Richard Guy Holliday was born in Los Angeles on August 28, 1934, to Guy and Lillian Holliday.
Richard played football at Susan Miller Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, graduating with the
Class of 1952. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, served in Japan after the
Korean War, and then was stationed at Twentynine Palms Marine Base in California.
Richard married Martha McLean on January 21, 1956. Richard completed a business degree at
UCLA in 1960. After graduation, he was hired by Travelers Insurance to sell life insurance, and
he joined the Marine Reserves. Richard and Martha adopted two children as infants – Guy in
1963, and Kathleen in 1965. In 1966, Richard volunteered to serve in the Vietnam conflict, then
as an officer in the Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam for 14 months, leading an artillery unit
during the war. While stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Richard rose to the rank of
Major before being Honorably Discharged with nearly 20 years of service to the Marine Corps.
Richard worked as an insurance agent for many years in several locations, retiring from his
career while living in Fresno, California. Richard and Martha divorced in 1988, and Richard
married Sue Emanuels that same year. They were married for 33 years, but had lived apart
since 2017 – Sue in Fresno, and Richard in Riverside. Richard was a member of the Fresno Noon
Lions Club and the Fresno chapter of the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed reading (especially
about business, history, and war), he watched Fox Business News religiously, and laughed at
Looney Tunes. He had a quick wit and a good sense of humor.
Richard was a Christian. Having put his faith in Jesus Christ, Richard is now experiencing eternal
life with our Heavenly Father. While not overt about his faith, Richard often commented about
a good sermon he heard on Sunday morning and stated that God was still working on him. By
God’s grace, that work has been completed. (Phil 1:6)
Richard is survived by his wife Sue Holliday; ex-wife Martha Holliday; son Guy Holliday and his
wife, Kim; and their children, Allison and Justin; daughter Kathleen Holliday; step-daughter
Deborah Keeney and her husband Mark; and their children, Nathan and Sarah; step-daughter
Cheryl Jones; and her children, Dalton and Tiffiny. Richard loved and was very proud of his
family (on both sides), and he loved his country, but he was most proud of being a Marine.
Richard went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2021. His cremains will be interred at the
Riverside National Cemetery with military honors on September 10, 2021, at 12:30 PM.
