Rebecca Jeanne Davis passed away on January 31, 2026 in Riverside, California. She was born June 15, 1940 to Helen Lawrence Davis and Robert Davis in Marion, Indiana. After Robert Davis passed, her mother married Lloyd Markwell who helped raise Rebecca.
Rebecca attended Ball State Teacher's College in Indiana and then taught in Riverside, California and at a U.S. Military Base in Okinawa. She returned to Ball State University to earn her Masters Degree and taught in Indiana for a short time before moving back to Riverside, California to teach and serve as a Categorical Program Specialist (CPS) at Hyatt Elementary School. She transferred to Pachappa Elementary School in 1986. Rebecca was named Riverside Unified School District Teacher of the Year in 1990. As a Mentor Teacher, Becky guided new teachers, presented workshops and developed curriculum including the History of Riverside for second grade.
Rebecca was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and several book clubs. After retiring, she was a frequent world traveler, visiting 60 countries including China, South Africa, Vietnam, Russia, Australia and Kenya. She sponsored children in Guatemala and Kenya and paid for their education. In 2013 she visited some of the children she helped in Kenya with the Tumaini International Organization.
She leaves behind her brother Stephen Davis (Rebecca), her niece Stephanie Davis Cotton (Charles) and great-nephew Kenyon Cotton, and nephew Spencer Davis, great-nephew Mason Davis and great-great nephew Wyatt Davis all living in Indiana.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Akes Family Funeral Home, 9695 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 10am.
