Ralph Garner Bass, born January 17, 1953, in Iola, Kansas, to Wendell Sr. and Phyllis Bass—respected members of the Iola community—passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christe Bass, whom he called his heart; sons Matthew and Michael Bass; daughter Melanie Bass; and brothers Pastor Wendell Bass II and Dr. Elliot “Chief” Bass.
A proud follower of Christ raised in the AME Church, Ralph lived his faith through service and compassion. He was an All-SEC athlete at Iola High School and a 1976 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he built lifelong bonds. Ralph served as a logistician in the U.S. Marine Corps, traveling the world aboard aircraft carriers, collecting mugs, and building friendships from flight school to the Mediterranean.
Ralph was a connoisseur of barbecue, known for bringing people together through food and fellowship. He also shared his kindness as a substitute teacher, inspiring young minds with his warmth and presence.
Memorial service will be on Friday, May 30, 2025 in Akes Family's "Chapel Of the Chimes" at 10:00 am with graveside service to follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 12:45 pm.
