We are saddened by the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather who went peacefully into the arms of our Lord. He battled with courage and determination after more than a dozen heart attacks. "The last one was too much to overcome," the doctor said.
Paul was a devoted husband, proud father, and cherished grandfather whose life was defined by love, leadership and deep commitment to family and community. Paul's true legacy was his love for his family.
Paul was first married to Marilyn, with whom he shared many meaningful years and raised three incredible children. Together they built a strong foundation of love and values that carried on through their family.
Professionally, Paul spent much of his career in finance. He served as President and CEO of United Bank Rockford, Illinois, President and CEO of United Bank, Loves Park, Illinois, President and CEO of Marine Bank Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He was respected for his integrity, wisdom and dedication, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and customers.
After the passing of his first wife, Marilyn, Paul later relocated to Moreno Valley, California. There, life brought him a second chance at love when he met Debra. Paul and Debra were married for 35 wonderful years, building a life filled with companionship, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. During his time in Moreno Valley, Paul continued his banking career as Bank President and CEO of Cal-West National Bank, where he once again demonstrated his strong leadership and commitment to service.
Paul made friends easily and he treated every person he met with a friendly demeanor. He had a generous heart and spirit. People have described him as "attractive, charming, witty and friendly." Paul also had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. He and his wife Debra loved traveling throughout the United States and much of the world. Paul loved playing golf with his buddies, he was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed photography and art, collected antique cigar labels, loved working in the yard, planting tomatoes and especially enjoyed grilling his favorite foods. As a graduate of Indiana University, he was a Hoosier and always watched his beloved Indiana Hoosier basketball team. Paul was especially excited to recently watch the Hoosier football team miraculously win the National Championship. His other loves were being able to watch his beloved Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Black Hawks.
Paul will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a man whose kindness and steady presence touched many lives. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren who brought him immense joy. His legacy lives on through the family he adored and the many people who were fortunate enough to know him.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Debra, brother Rick and his wife Janie, brother Jim and his wife Marydell, sister Donna and her husband Jim, daughter Debbie, son Greg, daughter Terri and her husband Bruce, and grandchildren Kyle, Joey, Bryn and Hayden.
To family and friends who Paul has left behind, he loved you dearly and prayed for God to pour out his blessings on you as he did for him.
