JOSE “BETO” HERNANDEZ
1935–2021
Born and raised in the Southern Rio Grande Valley of Texas; on February 5, 2021, our Lord took another member of his flock and Jose passed in Moreno Valley, CA.
Jose proudly served in the US Air Force for 23 years. His illustrious career included assignments in Vietnam, Iceland, Greenland, Philippines, Italy, as well as many other locations during his active-duty tenure. Well-deserving, he was decorated with the Bronze Star medal, and as a retired veteran, he continued to serve his community by working for the US Government.
Jose or “Beto” as the family knew him, enjoyed tinkering on cars and anything that he could fix; loved the outdoors and walking. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner; often offering advice through the wisdom he acquired throughout his life. He spent as much quality time as he could with his children and grandchildren who lived nearby. He was a fighter and would always say, “Never give up; quitting is not an option.” Another one of his “dadisms” was, “Make a decision!” He is remembered by many for his smile as he enjoyed telling classic “dad” jokes; and many were funny, but he had his share of classic duds. Anything to make someone laugh, engage with him, or simply calm someone’s anxiety.
He is survived by his loving family; His wife, Indriani, his former spouse Rosa and their 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 1 great- granddaughter, several nieces, and nephews and 6 siblings.
