Johnny James Jackson, Jr. was full of faith and curiosity until the day he passed peacefully on August 12, 2021, in the city of Upland, California at the age of 84. With a love for God, fishing, cooking, and investing, he lived a full life.
Born July 4, 1937, in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, to Johnny Jackson, Sr. and Ruby Jackson. As a child, Johnny developed a love for going to church by going every Sunday with Mama Lou, (his grandmother), Louise Pigford Alexander. As a teenager, he played baseball and enjoyed doing tricks on bicycles. Often, he would fall or break the bike, but it did not stop him from entertaining his friends.
Johnny was baptized in Meridian, Mississippi in the mid-1950s where He became a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He later married his wife of 65 years Leota in 1956 in Meridian, Mississippi where they were blessed with three children Wilfred, Leonard, and Harold. Johnny served in the U.S. Army Reserve and later retired in the early 1970s and took up his interest in investing.
After moving to Los Angeles, California in 1963, Johnny attended and supported Holmes Ave. Church of Christ, Watts Willowbrook Church of Church, Crenshaw Church of Christ, Pomona Church of Christ, Mission Church of Christ, Bellflower Church of Christ, Altadena Church of Christ, Chino Church of Christ, and Pasadena Church of Christ.
With a great sense of humor, a love for walking, and reading, Johnny remained very active until falling ill in 2018. Even through his illness, Johnny continued to attend worship in Pasadena and also in family in-home services during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.
Preceded in death by his youngest son, Harold Douglas Jackson in September 2020, Johnny James Jackson is survived by his wife, Leota; two sons Wilfred and Leonard; two brothers, Luther, and Lamar; five grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
