JOHN PETER HOLMES

John Holmes, 91, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Greenville, NC.

John was born in St. Louis, MO, on February 9, 1932. He was the oldest of eleven children born to John and Dorothy Holmes. He was a graduate from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Acoustical Engineering. His spent his career with government defense contractors. John was a Master Bridge Player and enjoyed substitute teaching in his retirement.

In addition to his parents and his first wife Maureen, John was preceded in death by his siblings, David, Michael, and Linda.

John is survived by his wife, Mardelle Gustafson; his children, Cindy Holmes of California, Mary Kay Furimsky and husband, Dan, of North Carolina, Laura Kooy and husband, Nick, of California, Mary Beth Lund and husband, Mike, of Arizona, Pete Holmes and fiancé, Amy, of California, and Tim Holmes of California; grandchildren, Susan Walters and husband, Jimmy, Michael Furimsky and fiancé, Candice, Stephanie Furimsky, Troy Furimsky, Maureen Kooy, Chris Lund, Katie Lund, Kaylee Lund, and Travis Holmes; great-grandchildren, Shea Walters, Lily Walters, and Johnathan Lund; and his siblings, Laura, Nancy, Sally, Susan, Marguerite, Richard, and Monica.

Graveside Service will be on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
