JOHN FREY Obituary

JOHN RANDOLPH FREY, 81, of Riverside, California, entered Eternal Life Tuesday, November 12, 2024. John Randolph Frey was born in Temple City, California on Tuesday, December 15, 1942, to Jesse Pete Frey and Josephine Carmen Frey. He married Linda Maurine Gray on Saturday, July 5th, 1980, in Covina, CA. 

John was born and raised in Temple City, California, where he graduated from Temple City Highschool. After college and military service, he settled down in West Covina, California, where he met Linda and after a few years of marriage and 2 kids eventually moved to Riverside, California where they added another child. John and Linda remained in Riverside for the remainder of his life.

John received a bachelor’s in architecture from the University of Southern California in 1964, where he went on a track and football scholarship. In 1965, John received a Master of Architecture from University of Mexico. John started his career with International Aluminum in the mail room. With his strong work ethic, extensive skills and determination John worked his way up to Chief Design Engineer. John spent his career growing the field of the Window, Door, Storefront and Curtain Wall Industry, where he stayed for 62 years. He collaborated on numerous projects such as the Mercedes-Benz Stadium home of the Atlanta Falcons, Sofi-Stadium in Inglewood, California, and the Encore and Wynn hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada. John held numerous patents in his field and was sought out worldwide as an expert in Structural Engineering. John found true fulfillment in his work and traveling with his Wife and Girls. 

He enjoyed trains, in retirement he had hoped to complete his gardens cape of the Napa Valley Wine Train, in G-scale. Being a huge football fan, he was always rooting for his Alma mater, the USC Trojans, as well as the San Francisco 49ers. In his younger years, he loved restoring classic cars from the ground up and was a member of a Hot Rod club called Unique’s. 

John is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Pete Frey and Josephine Carmen Frey, and grandson, Jack Sullivan Ketchum. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Maurine Frey; three daughters, Rebecca Lynn Frey, Kimberly Chistine Ketchum (son-in-law Chad Robert Ketchum) and Maurine Michelle Petrunio (son-in-aw Brandon Michael Petrunio;) three granddaughters, Graylin May Ketchum, Emery Reese Petrunio, and Jocelyn Grace Petrunio; his sister Marilyn Sheffield (brother in law Geoffrey Sheffield Sr.;) his nephew Geoffrey Sheffield Jr, and nieces Karen Curry and Megan Ehrenberg. 

Chapel Blessing will be held at Akes Family's "Chapel of the Chimes" at 10:00 O’clock in the morning on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, with military honors to follow at Riverside National Cemetery.
