Isabel was born in Moca Puerto Rico in 1936 to Tomas Roman and Sebastiana Cordero. She had many brothers and sisters she was youngest girl. Her mother and father both died when she was a little girl. She moved to New York City at the age of 15 to live with her older siblings. During the day she would take care of
her nephews and at night she went to school. She always wanted to have an education. She
also worked in the garment district in New York. She met our father Jose in 1954 and married in
1955. In 1956 her beloved and (favorite) son was born Jose Jr. (Papo). 2 years later in 1958 her
second son was born Richard (named after Richard Nixon). My mom always had health
conditions and was warned not to have anymore children. Well 5 years later in 1963 was born
her beautiful little girl Miriam. Our family moved to Los Angeles in 1964 after my mom’s beloved
sister Justa and her family moved to California. They loved California the trees the grass they
were so happy. My mom was very dedicated and involved with the PTA and The Red Shield
never missed a school function. She started going to school to become a nurse but in 1971 we
moved to a small town called Corona so she was not able to finish her nursing. By then we had
many family members that had moved from New York to California. My parents were very happy
in Corona and my parents bought their first home in 1972 located in El Cerrito. She had many
jobs. Unfortunately, in 1974 we were in a horrible car accident and our father passed away. It
was a very difficult time for my mom taking care of a son in the military, 1 teenager and a child.
But our mom has always been a fighter and a survivor. She worked for 12 years at Anaheim
Stadium. She met her second husband Joel. My mom was losing her vision and she retired with
her husband to Puerto Rico. They a built a beautiful home in Moca. Unfortunately he passed
away in 2001 just a few months after she was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer. Again my
mom was alone. That’s when her daughter moved to Puerto Rico to help her mother. We want
everyone to know our mom was a survivor a fighter she was very optimistic and dedicated to her
family. She was also an entrepreneur she had open a record shop in Home Gardens and in
Puerto Rico she also had a food truck. January 24, 2020 she fell and broke her femur she then
never walked again. In May 2022 her children granted her final wish to go to her beloved Puerto
Rico after a few months she grew weaker and fell asleep and never woke up. She was a
beloved mother of 3, grandmother of 11, great grandmother of 14 and great great grandmother
of 6. She was a wonderful mother-in-law especially to her beloved 2nd daughter Ruby Vargas
who passed away due to covid19 and to Juan Perez her son-in-law. She is an inspiration to us
all, the matriarch of our family and she will be truly missed. “We love you Mom til we meet
again.”
