Reverend Frederick James Huscher passed away peacefully at his home in Romoland CA on May
16, 2026 at the age of 90 years old. Reverend Huscher began his ministry, after seminary, by
serving Trinity Lutheran Church in Bend Oregon and then Messiah Lutheran Church in Seattle
Washington. After being called to California, Reverend Huscher ministered to the following
Riverside congregations: Faith Lutheran Church, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and the
fellowship of Christians known as Foundations. In addition to his time as a parish pastor,
Reverend Huscher served for many years as the Vice President for Development at Concordia
University Irvine, formally known as (Christ College Irvine). After retiring from parish ministry,
he joined the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1997 and acted as its full-time chaplain
until his time of retirement in 2007. If he wasn’t busy enough, Rev. Huscher spent many of his
years in California serving as the acting field Chaplain for the Los Angeles Chapter of the FBI.
One of Rev. Huscher’s proudest moments was when he was invited by Representative Ken
Calvert of the 41 st Congressional District to provide the opening prayer at the U.S. Capital in
Washington D.C. on June 27, 2002.
Frederick J. Huscher was born to his parents John and Mary Huscher of Cedar Bluffs NE on June
13,1935. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, his daughter Mari, and his brother Dwaine.
He is survived by his sister, Marylin LeGrande; three of his children, Christian Huscher, Curtis
Huscher, and Heidi Sheilds; and his grandchildren, Tony and Paul Montanez, Jennifer O’Malley,
Tyler and Nicholas Huscher, Andrew, Benjamin, Hannah and Micah Huscher, and Bobby and
Bailee Shields.
During Rev. Huscher’s 50 years of ministry, he touched many lives by officiating over hundreds
of weddings and funerals. God took Frederick Huscher, a humble farmer from Nebraska and
airman of the U.S. Airforce, and developed him into the loving Minister of the Gospel hundreds
knew him to be. Reverend Huscher was known as a kind and caring man and a friend to all.
Without question, Reverend Huscher was greeted by his Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 16 th with
the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” He will be missed by all whose lives he
had touched.
A closed casket time of remembrance will be held at Akes funeral home on June 17, from 5–7
pm. A Celebration of Life will then take place on June 18 at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church
in Temecula CA followed by a graveside service at the Riverside National Cemetery on June 18
at 1:00 pm. All are invited to attend.
