Edwin Anthony Wullner, age 95, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020.
Edwin (Ed) leaves behind his loving wife of the last 65 years, Mary Allen, their two children, Deborah and Robert, their spouses Ramiro and Evelyn, and four grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher, Hayden, and Lauren.
Ed was born in Buffalo, New York to Magdalena and Herman Wullner. He graduated from the University of Buffalo where he studied architecture prior to joining the service. From 1943-1945, Ed served in World War II in the rank of F/O Flying Officer / Navigator in the Army Air Corps. Following his service, Ed grasped the post war optimism with an entrepreneurial spirit, owning and operating various business ventures and teaching Junior Achievement classes for young future entrepreneurs.
Ed’s last civilian role was that of Director of Purchasing for the City of Los Angeles. One of his proudest achievements was working with senior city leaders to plan and execute the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, reported by the LA Times some 20 years later to have been the most financially successful Olympics of modern times and a model for how to run the Olympic Games. Ed retired from civil service work in 1992, which afforded him the opportunity to further develop his creative talent for woodworking. Animals also brought Ed great joy. From his golden retriever to his last bichon-poo – even the neighborhood squirrels would come to his back door for breakfast each morning.
Ed will be remembered lovingly by his family and friends as an avid story teller with a dry and sometimes corny sense of humor. We will all forever miss him, and we look forward to seeing him again someday.
