ELIZABETH MARIE BUNUAN

Elizabeth Marie Bunuan, 80, from Moreno Valley, California, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025 with her son, Kenneth by her side. Born in Salinas, CA on June 4, 1945, Elizabeth was the oldest child of Eleuterio Cortez and Eleanor Galiza. 

She spent most of her young adult life as a military wife and mother raising two sons while moving frequently for Military assignments, most notably Spain and the Philippines. During this time, she was able to visit many destinations like London, England, Frankfurt, Germany and Okinawa, Japan. The family finally set roots in Moreno Valley, where Elizabeth lived until her passing. 

Elizabeth worked at the Riverside County Department of Education as a secretary for Special Ed for over 30 years until her retirement in 2021. One of her responsibilities was event planning, which she took very seriously. Most importantly to her was her faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. She attended Harvest Christian Fellowship where she also worked in the children’s department for several years. 

She loved going to Disneyland, whether it was taking her great grandkids or her 3 day trips she would spend with her friend, Diana White. She also had a passion for cruises. She went on several with her church to Israel and also Italy. In 2008, she was baptized in the Sea of Galilee, which was a huge accomplishment in her Christian life, to walk where Jesus walked and be baptized in the same body of water He was. 

She loved and did everything for her family including Her mother, Eleanor Galiza until her passing in May of 2024. She was a single mother for over 40 years. She was an Amazing grandmother, mother in law and great grand mother. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth and Michael. Her grandchildren Zechariah and Tabitha and her great grandchildren, Adelina (14), Annabelle (12), Elias (9), Adirah (5), Neriah (3) and Nehemiah (1). As well as her cousins in Northern California and her best friend Diana White. 

A memorial for Elizabeth will take place on September 11 at noon at Akes Family Funeral Home, 9695 Magnolia Ave Riverside, CA 92503. Check with family for reception information.
