Riverside native Donald Cree, at the age of 96, passed away at his home on July 21, 2024. He is predeceased by his loving wife Chris Cree. They had been married for 66 years.
He is survived by his three daughters Cathy Coiner, Debbie (Jeff) Smith, and Corol Cree; four grandchildren Brian (Nicole) Coiner, Bree (Eric) Powell, Stephanie (Matthew) Morris, and Alana Smith; eight great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He proudly served in the Navy and for a short time he was a deputy sheriff for the county of Riverside. He followed in his mother's (Peggy Cree) footsteps by opening Don Cree Menswear originally Downtown and then moved to the Brockton Arcade when that center opened. He subsequently moved to the Plaza opening Don Cree LTD. Together he and his wife owned the Dandelion (Downtown), Cree's Clothes for Her (Brockton Arcade) and Cree's of Corona.
In the early years, he was an active member in the 20-30 Club and later The Exchange Club of Magnolia Center. He was also a supporter of the NRA and the American Legion. He enjoyed an active lifestyle with a passion for the outdoors which included: fishing (ocean and stream), hunting (pheasant, deer and shooting skeet), motorcycling (both racing and pleasure), golfing, and camping and boating.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 19th at 11:00 am in Akes Family Funeral Home's "Chapel of The Chimes" Riverside, California. A celebration of life will directly follow.
Private interment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery.
