DEWAYNE ZIMMERMAN Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of DeWayne Dean Zimmerman Jr., who departed this world on Sunday, September 7th, 2025. Born on a picturesque fall morning on Thursday, October 1st, 1970, in Lynwood, California, to his devoted parents, Gayla and DeWayne Sr., DeWayne was a cherished Father, Son, Uncle, and Brother.

After graduating from Elsinore High School in 1988, DeWayne took his first steps into the working world as a manager at Stater Brothers, where he had the good fortune of meeting Lani Nguy. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Peyton, in 2007—a true highlight in DeWayne's life. His desire to make a difference shone through when he graduated from Central Oregon Community College and earned his paramedic license in 2015. Over the next nine years, he dedicated himself to saving countless lives, first in Bend, Oregon, and later in California, leaving an indelible mark on all he encountered.

DeWayne is survived by his beloved daughter, Peyton, his devoted mother, Gayla, and a delightful assortment of nieces and nephews who will surely carry on his legacy of humor and heart.

In 2021, DeWayne's dream of being closer to family came to fruition, as he, Peyton, and Gayla moved back to California to reconnect with their once-distant relatives. He embraced the ensuing holidays and birthdays surrounded by loved ones, proving that family is indeed where the heart is—even if it meant enduring the occasional family debate over the best football team.

Ah, football! If you knew DeWayne, you knew of his unwavering loyalty to his favorite quarterback, Derek Carr. Sundays were sacred, as he, Peyton, and Gayla would gather to cheer on “their” team (which, for the record, was almost never the Chiefs). His stubborn yet caring personality, paired with his talent for cracking jokes at the most unexpected moments, made him a joy to be around.

DeWayne was the rock that his family could always lean on, a man whose ear was always open. He inspired those around him to reach for the stars, particularly his daughter, Peyton, whom he encouraged to pursue her dreams with unyielding support. Although he maintained a small circle of friends, his affection for them was profound and unwavering.

While we will miss DeWayne's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter, we find comfort in envisioning him now with his sister, likely aboard a cruise ship headed toward Mexico, enthusiastically declaring, “Party on!” while clutching a Long Island iced tea. In our hearts, he will forever remain a source of inspiration and joy.

Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St Edward Catholic Church, Corona, California.
