Bonnie Jean (Bottome) Dykes, born June 15, 1928, to James and Viola Bottome, went home to Heaven on January 1, 2026.
Bonnie was a wonderful, loving, and deeply caring woman whose life was defined by faith, family, and service to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and her love extended far beyond her immediate family to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Bonnie shared more than fifty years of love and devotion with her beloved husband, Clarence, as they built a beautiful life and family together in Riverside. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, partnership, and joy, and together they created countless memories that will be cherished for generations.
A woman of strong faith, Bonnie generously volunteered her time mentoring young people as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den leader, as well as through church youth groups, and faithfully taught Sunday school for many years. She also served as an active deaconess in her church, welcoming new visitors, coordinating special events and holiday activities, and lovingly writing the Christmas and Easter programs that brought the congregation together in celebration and worship.
Bonnie’s warmth and hospitality were legendary. Though her front room was modest in size, her heart was boundless—she never hesitated to open her home to host a meal, a gathering, or a celebration. She wore her smile every day and carried joy with her wherever she went. Bonnie never let an opportunity to laugh pass by; she was always ready to hear a good joke or share one of her own amusing and comical stories.
Her compassion was vibrant and sincere. She cared deeply not only about others’ feelings, but also their well-being. Many remember her at one end of the phone offering comfort, or seated at her kitchen table thoughtfully writing letters and cards to brighten someone’s day.
Bonnie also cherished traveling with Clarence—by train, plane, and automobile—embracing new sights and shared adventures that strengthened their bond and filled their lives with unforgettable memories.
This world will not be the same without Bonnie Jean Dykes in it. While her absence is deeply felt, we take comfort in knowing she is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, reunited with her beloved husband, her son, her sister, and other cherished family members who preceded her in death.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, daughter-in-law, niece, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her love, laughter, and legacy forward.
