Betty Jean Schlangen passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on November 19, 2022. Betty Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was born on May 12, 1926, to Eugene and Viola Gibford in Los Angeles, California. Betty Jean grew up in San Bernardino, where she graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1943. After marrying the love of her life, Oscar George, she settled down in the house her husband built for them, in Colton, where they then raised 4 beautiful children.
She and George loved traveling, and some of her fondest memories were their trips in their motorhome. Betty was an involved member in her community. She was a member of the Colton Woman's Club for 58 years, the First Presbyterian Church in Colton, and was a member of many other clubs, including "Quilters", Bunco, and a bowling league. Her family was her pride and joy and she was loved by all who knew her.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oscar George, and her eldest daughter Judith Ann Haas. She is survived by her children, Jill Annette Huber (Glennon), Steven George Schlangen (Maria), and Robyn Jean Asherbranner (David Simmering), as well as 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on January 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Celebration of Life will be held January 21 at the Colton Woman's Club, 495 N. 7th Street, Colton, California, beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colton Woman's Club.
