On March 4, 2021, Benjamin C. Mendiola, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away in his hometown of Riverside, California, at the age of 56. Benjamin was born on the US island of Guam on February 1, 1965, to his mother Albina and father Vicente. Being the fourth child of eight, Benjamin was part of a big family. He graduated from La Sierra High School in Riverside, California, in 1983.
After high school, Benjamin attended Fullerton College and worked for U-Haul in Placentia, California. He eventually joined the US Air Force and served for 15 years. During his service, Benjamin was stationed in South Korea, Japan, and Guam, to name a few. He then worked at The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, California, for 13 years. Benjamin was a big (and very vocal) sports fan and always rooted for his favorite teams, particularly the UCLA Bruins, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Benjamin always enjoyed playing video games, whether it be in online gaming with his friends from near and far or on all the Nintendo systems at home with his brothers, sister, and nine-year-old niece. Benjamin loved listening to music from his favorite 80s rock bands, such as Journey, REO Speedwagon, Asia, and Foreigner. He was also a fan of the Star Wars movies and anything with action and adventure in it.
Benjamin leaves behind his loving mother Albina; brothers Joseph, Darrell, and Allan; sisters Maria, Barbara, and Joanna; and five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jesse in 1991 and father Vicente in 2019. Benjamin was and always will be loved by his family and friends, and he will be forever missed by them.
