ALAN BYERS Obituary

Alan Russell Byers, 84, Riverside, California, passed away peacefully on
November 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Alan Russell Byers was born in Alhambra, California to George and Francis
Byers on April 17, 1941. He graduated from Rosemead High School in
1959. He attended Brigham Young University for one year and graduated
from Cerritos College with his Associates Degree. Alan served a mission
for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the
Southwest Indian Mission serving the Navajo Indians, speaking the Navajo
language. He loved his mission, thinking about it everyday. After his
mission, he served in the US Army for 2 years serving in Germany.
On March 10, 1967, he married his sweetheart Connie Sue Nielsen Byers
in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Alan and Connie were blessed with seven
amazing children raising them in Huntington Beach and Riverside,
California.
Alan faithfully served in many leadership callings for The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints always willing to help others out. Alan and
Connie served in the Redlands LDS Temple. He worked as a
Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for Abbott Laboratories for 25 years.
He was involved in his community serving in the Boy Scouts of America
and coaching various sports teams for his children. He loved attending his
children’s activities from music to sports and was always their biggest
cheerleader.
After retirement, Alan and Connie served for 9 years as church
missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving at
the University of California Riverside Institute program and as Pathway
missionaries. Alan and Connie loved to travel throughout the United
States and internationally seeing many amazing places. Alan loved going
to see his children and grandchildren who lived in many different states
and attending many of their various activities and sporting events. You
would find him cheering them on and wearing their team shirts. He would
always say “Family is the best medicine”, family brought him joy.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents George and Francis Byers, his
brother Frank Byers.
Alan is survived by his wife Connie Nielsen Byers, his son Jeffrey (Jennifer)
Byers, daughter Lisa (Kent) Abbott, son Greg (Jenna) Byers, daughter
Nancy (Dustin) Olson, daughter Jennifer (Byron) Gifford, son Brian
(Courtney) Byers, son Steven Byers, brother Bruce (Charlene) Byers, sister
Bonita Yanda, brother Richard (Leisa) Byers, and sister Karen (Joel)
Johnson, 24 surviving grandchildren.
The family of Alan Byers wishes to thank the many Dr’s, nurses, in home
care givers, and Hospice team for their kind and loving care that they
extended to him during his last days. All of his children came multiple
times to help support their mother and serve their father. Alan will be truly
missed.
