VIRGINIA HIATT Obituary

Virginia Hiatt, Age 93, passed away on Jan. 22, 2024, at her home in Riverside, California. She was born on Jan. 21, 1931 in Riverside to Mariano and Mary (Candida Grillo) Garcia. She attended Riverside Polytechnic High School and graduated in 1949. She continued her education at Riverside City College and went on to become a bookkeeper and legal secretary to Donald F. Zimmer, attorney at law, until her retirement in 1996.

In Aug. 1955 she married Roger Hiatt at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and together they had two sons, Kenneth Allen and Thomas Brian whom Virginia raised as a single parent. She joined the Ave Maria Sorority in 1952 where she formed many close and lifelong friendships. She was a devout Catholic, attending St. Francis de Sales and St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic churches throughout her life and participating in bible studies as well as church choir. Besides her deep faith, she was dedicated to helping those less fortunate than herself, giving generously to charitable causes and volunteering for many years at Riverside Community Hospital. Her passions included extensive travel, at home and abroad, as well as arts experiences, especially music. She enjoyed gardening and was deservedly proud of her flower gardens and trees. She loved creating tasty and healthful food, and sharing her labor of love with family and friends.

She is survived by sons Kenneth (Vickie) Hiatt and Thomas Hiatt; granddaughters, Melissa Hiatt and Amanda Hiatt; great-grandchildren, Karissa and Robbie Ramos; sisters, Vera Henry, Rachel Kukuk, and Loretta (Robert) Ingvalson; sisters-in-law, Beverly Garcia and Georgiana Garcia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Rita Turner, Marion Garcia, Rudy Garcia, Marie Feltman, and Richard Garcia; and brothers-in-law, Charles Henry, Lester Kukuk, and Gerald Feltman.

Mass will be held Thursday, Feb. 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Olivewood Cemetery at 11:30 am. A lunch and Celebration of Life will take place after the interment.
